  • Monica Geldart
Monica Geldart graduated the Acting for Screen Diploma this summer after successfully completing the course. We caught up with the actor to find out how she found the experience.
  • Asset-1-1
What was your situation when you started the course?
When I started the course I was employed at the high school I went too, I had been working there for a couple of years.
  • Asset-1-1
Had you any previous acting experience?
I had no experience of professional acting work before the course.
  • Asset-1-1
What made you chose YAFTA and acting on screen?
I attended YAFTA’s evening classes and saw online they offered the diploma course and knew straight away I wanted to do it.
  • Asset-1-1
Did Covid affect your plans/dreams for acting?
Covid definitely slowed down the industry, but the lockdown gave me time to get creative and that is when I decided to put myself out there onto the internet.
  • Asset-1-1
What have been your key takeaways from the course?
One of the main things I will take away from YAFTA is that you cannot sit around for something to happen. You have to be proactive, if you want something, work hard and you will get there. I also learnt many techniques that massively helped with my acting skills.
  • Asset-1-1
    What did you enjoy most?
I enjoyed the practical side of the course, being with the group and pushing myself.
  • Asset-1-1
Is a career as an actor/the industry different to what you thought it would be/entail?
I always knew the acting industry was tough, I just never imagined how tough. I think if you want something enough, you are willing to work until you get there.
  • Asset-1-1
What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to continue my work in the world of social media, putting myself out there and creating comedy skits. My goal will always be to be on TV, I have a lot of goals I want to achieve.
  • Asset-1-1
What advice would you give someone thinking about pursuing their acting dream?
My advice for someone wanting to pursue a career in acting would be to give it all you’ve got. There will always be good days and bad days but as long as you are working hard and pushing yourself, you are doing your best and that is what matters. You have to be proactive and you have to be brave. When your hard work starts paying off, you will feel such a huge sense of achievement.
