From young people and university graduates, to those who have established careers and family commitments, the one thing that unites them is their passion to really develop their acting skill, technique and industry knowledge to pursue their aim of being a professional actor.
One great example of never saying never is Acting for Screen Diploma student, Jane Williams. Jane was a retail business owner and now carer to her elderly mother. Although Jane enjoyed acting as a young girl, her life took a different direction and she began a career in retail, going on to launch her own floristry business. But the love of acting never left Jane. When she became a full-time carer for her mother, Jane realised it was also important to put time aside to look after her own wellbeing. One night browsing the internet she spotted the advert for the YAFTA Acting for Screen Diploma course and applied – and hasn’t looked back!
Jane has been doing the course less than a year and has recently filmed her first professional, paid commercial that will appear on national TV. Go Jane!
“Joining the YAFTA Diploma course was one of the best decisions I have made. The course is really professional and covers all aspects of the industry, thoroughly preparing you for a career as an actor. In addition to the hard work it’s also fun! I can’t believe that in less than a year that I have gained so much experience.
Being a full-time carer can be isolating and tough mentally but being part of YAFTA has helped me tremendously. I’m really excited about my acting future.”
