LEEDS ADULT CLASSES

Here at YAFTA It is our aim to prepare all students for work as a professional film and TV actors. We educate our students to equip them with the necessary skills, tools, knowledge and psychological preparation, which is essential to succeed in the film and TV industry.

Our students are encouraged to be professional, punctual, polite and reliable throughout their education at YAFTA. Through the classes they will develop team working skills, build confidence and strengthen interpersonal relationships, all whilst embracing their own creativity through acting.

YAFTA CAN HELP YOU TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS
Our Leeds students have gone on to secure roles in major film & TV productions such as Coronation Street, BBC1’s In the Club, From Darkness and Happy Valley to name but a few. Others have been awarded places at highly competitive and prestigious drama schools.
THE YAFTA
SYLABUS

All of our students follow a structured syllabus which has been carefully designed by an expert team comprising of graduates from the world’s top drama schools including London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), Central School of Speech and Drama (CSSD); Film & TV Agents and Occupational and Business Psychologists who specialise in assessment in selection.

Our syllabus is one of the most robust assessment processes offered in an academy of this nature and is open for all of our regular students to benefit from.

Our holistic style syllabus has been designed to develop a variety of skills required to work as a professional screen actor and is not simply focused on the skill of acting itself. Students will be prepared for all aspects of the acting industry to give them the best chance of success. All of these skills are transferable to the classroom, personal life and ultimately the working world.

We believe that the most appropriate way to assess progression is through continuous assessment of all aspects of the course. Therefore, students will not be assessed solely on an examination. Our assessment process takes into consideration all aspects of the educational programme at YAFTA and has four different elements:

IN-CLASS PERFORMANCE
AUDITION PERFORMANCE
AUDITION TECHNIQUE

.

ON-SET PERFORMANCE

Offering assessment on all components of the course allows students to gain credit for their commitment, time keeping skills, professional and motivated attitude, on- going performances in class as well as their performances on-set and in the final audition.

This means you can be confident that those students who pass their exams have shown competence consistently throughout the year and in a range of environments.

There are two assessment dates throughout the year, one in January and one in July. A full syllabus and details of the assessment process will be sent to each student once their ability level has been established by their tutor, this can take a number of weeks after commencing classes.

COURSE CONTENT

A full list of course aims and objectives will be sent to students after enrolment on the course. In brief, the core areas that students will develop competence in are:

YAFTA Student Scholarship

Supporting, training and developing our students to help them become the best screen actors they can be is our primary aim here at YAFTA.

The YAFTA Student Scholarship is exclusively for our evening class students and will be awarded by the YAFTA teaching team to students who have shown a committed attitude, talent and interest in undertaking the Acting for Screen Diploma course. Students will have to have attended the evening acting classes for at least 6 months to be eligible and a maximum of 5 scholarships in total will be awarded per diploma cohort.

Your tutor will advise you if they think that you have the potential to undertake the diploma course. If you are interested in undertaking the diploma, please also let your tutor know so that they are aware.

The Scholarship is a contribution of £770 towards diploma course fees.

As with all actors, Derek also works in other areas of the industry as a casting director. Students will learn from Derek’s vast experience as a professional working actor both in the UK and the US, as well as his experience in casting.
