To prepare all students for work as a professional film and TV actors. We educate our students to equip them with the necessary skills, tools, knowledge and psychological preparation which are essential to succeed in the film and TV industry.

Through an engaging, exciting and collaborative environment, we endeavour to develop highly competent actors who exhibit a proactive and professional attitude towards their career, craft and education. We encourage the development of a number of important transferable skills which will aid students in their personal lives, school education and working lives.

We believe that in order to teach acting you must have trained in it yourself at a high level. All YAFTA tutors are drama school trained, have professional screen acting experience in mainstream film & TV work, are paediatric first aid qualified and hold DBS certification when working with children or vulnerable adults. Our class sizes are kept small to ensure that students get the most out of their education at YAFTA.

YAFTA actor wins NTA

James Moore, who plays Ryan Stocks in Emmerdale has won Best Newcomer in the 2019 National Television Awards. The win follows James winning Best Newcomer in the Daily Star Soap Awards.


Our students have auditioned for or gone to secure roles in major film and TV productions including; Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Happy Valley, In The Club, Hollyoaks, Holby City, Casualty, Game of Thrones, Homeland, The Current War, Funny Cow, Love Lies and Records, Armchair Detectives, Outlander, Cold Feet, Last Tango in Halifax and many other productions from the BBC, ITV, CBBC, Nickelodeon and more.

Acting for Screen Diploma Course

The next diploma intake is in October 2019. For this cohort, auditions will be held in August 2019.

A one year, part time, blended learning course. The Youth diploma has been designed for those aged 11 to 16 years.The next Acting for Screen Youth Diploma intake begins May 2019. Auditions are taking place on 30th March 2019.

Film & Television Production Diploma

first of its kind in the North of the UK

This is a one year, part time, blended learning course. The diploma has been designed for those with little or no experience of film & TV production, who wish to develop the technical skills required to produce content for film & television. This intensive training course will equip students with the necessary technical knowledge and skills to start gaining work experience in the industry.

Screenwriting Diploma


YAFTA’s Applied Screenwriting Diploma course is a one year blended learning course which requires attendance for 3 hours per week for 3 semesters of the year. In addition to the compulsory contact hours, students will have a distance learning element of the course to complete between sessions.



We regularly run headshot sessions in Leeds. You will receive 5 retouched images in colour, black and white, high resolution and low resolution.
