Our aim

Through our screen acting courses, we educate students to equip them with the necessary skills, tools, knowledge and psychological preparation which are essential to succeed in the film and TV industry.

Through an engaging, exciting and collaborative environment, we endeavour to develop highly competent actors who exhibit a proactive and professional attitude towards their career, craft and education. We encourage the development of a number of important transferable skills which will aid students in their personal lives, education and working lives.

We believe that in order to teach acting you must have trained at a high level. All YAFTA tutors are drama school trained actors, have professional screen acting experience in mainstream film & TV work, are paediatric first aid qualified and hold DBS certification when working with children or vulnerable adults.

Acting for Screen Diploma

Industry opportunities

Our students have auditioned for, and secured roles in major film and TV productions including Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Happy Valley, In The Club, Hollyoaks, Holby City, Casualty, Game of Thrones, Homeland, The Current War, Funny Cow, Love Lies and Records, Armchair Detectives, Outlander, Cold Feet, Strike Series, Sky’s COBRA II, Last Tango in Halifax and many other productions for BBC, ITV, CBBC, Nickelodeon and more. Whether you’re a teen or adult, beginner or more advanced actor, our diploma programmes train students to become professional screen actors. Entry to the diploma programmes is via audition only, you can find out more below. Our evening classes are available for those who would like to learn to act for screen or simply to build confidence and meet new people.

Acting for screen diploma

Beginner to Professional Actor, 12 Month blended learning programme. Includes all training and actor tools.

YAFTA’s 12 month diploma course is a Spotlight accredited programme with both online and in-person options available. This means that upon successful completion of this course, you will be eligible to join Spotlight Students who complete the diploma programme will have the opportunity to participate in the LA Intensive programme.

Acting for Screen Diploma Scholarship

To celebrate the YAFTA Group’s 10 Year anniversary, we’re pleased to announce a new scholarship scheme with the release of 10 Diploma Scholarships for the October 2023 cohort. The Scholarship contributes 15% towards the total course fees and are awarded by judgement of the senior talent, management and lecturing team at YAFTA. All those who apply to the course will automatically be considered for a scholarship if they are successful in securing a place on the course.

Yafta introduction to screen acting course

The yafta introduction to screen acting course is 16 week course, delivered either online or in the classroom, which has been designed specifically for those who would like to learn about the fundamentals of screen acting.

The yafta applied screenwriting diploma

A one year blended learning course which requires attendance for 3 hours per week for 35 weeks of the year. In addition to the compulsory contact hours, students will have a distance learning element of the course to complete between sessions.

Acting for screen youth diploma

A one year, part time, blended learning course. The youth diploma has been designed for those aged 11 to 16 years

Acting Workshop with acclaimed actor, director and producer

The workshop is an immersive, in person experience with an acclaimed actor, director and producer, Ian Puleston-Davies. Participants will be supplied a scene to work on prior to the workshop. During the workshop you’ll be paired with another actor to perform the scene and Ian will provide expert guidance and direction to enhance your performance. The workshop will take place at The Leeds Media Centre, 21 Saville Mount, LS7 3HZ

Ian Puleston-Davies is a professional actor who has recently filmed Marcella, Beowulf and Lewis. Ian played Owen Armstrong in Coronation Street for 5 years prior to his recent acting achievements.

Ian has an impressive acting CV having been in most major soaps and dramas in the UK over the past 20 years. Some of his credits include Eastenders, Waterloo Road, Silent Witness, Life on Mars, I’m Alan Partridge, Dalziel & Pascoe to name a few.

Ian wrote and directed Bolan’s Shoes which is currently available to watch on Sky and Amazon Prime. He has recently filmed roles in Tin Star/Sky, Pennyworth/Warner TV, The Responder/BBC, Marcella/Netflix.

He is currently writing his own screenplay and working as an actor but will also be finding the time to teach YAFTA masterclasses. Ian supports the development of actors at YAFTA.
