YAFTA wouldn’t be what it is without our stella tutor team. Daniel Thrace is one of our acting class tutor’s and shares his background, advice and inspiration.
What is your day job and role at YAFTA
My role at YAFTA is teaching the Wednesday Evening classes for Adults and Teens. My day job is acting! Unless I have to make some extra cash, then you might find me carving wood or pouring drinks.
How did you get into the industry? What was your first acting job?
I actually started as crew, working on a feature film over the course of a year in a few different roles. My first acting role was in a York St. John Masters project as the lead role, it was set in a prehistoric time period and told of the first homo-sapiens struggle to survive.
Who is your acting inspiration?
I’m a huge fan of Philip Seymour Hoffman and Michael Fassbender’s work, but I take a lot of my inspiration from people that I meet. Acting is about telling stories, and finding truth and there is no better place to do that than in everyday life.
What advice would you give someone starting out in the industry?
Enjoy it, learn about yourself as an actor, your strengths and weaknesses, and have confidence. Work on your craft and your portfolio, and never let a setback stop you.
If you could invite three dinner party guests from the world of screen, dead or alive, who would it be?
Only three!? Ok… Philip Seymour Hoffman, Darren Aronofsky and Paul Thomas Anderson… oh and Robin Williams. I know that’s four, but you can’t not let me have Robin too.
