KATIE PROCTOR

How long have you been acting and with YAFTA Talent Agency?

I’ve been acting since I was 7 and moved from stage school to YAFTA when I had just turned 12 in 2015.

What do you love about the industry?

I love the experience of being on set. It’s unlike anything I’ve done before. I love the fact that being an actor (or just in the industry) gives you a sense of creative freedom that you can’t necessarily get in other jobs. You can meet so many different types of people, and there’s no one way to work. It’s so interesting and always surprising me.

What are the key skills/attributes you think someone needs to work in the industry?

You definitely need to be thick-skinned. It’s something you just develop after a while, but it can be difficult to deal with rejection (which happens a lot no matter who you are!) at first. You also need to be adaptable. You never know what part you’ll get next, or where you’ll be working and who with.

What advice would you give someone looking to get into film and TV acting?

If you really want to do it, just don’t give up. It can be really frustrating at times when you’re struggling to get parts, but the hard work will pay off in the end. Don’t let the harsh reality of the industry and the knockbacks put you off from learning as much as you can and developing your skills. And most importantly, enjoy it!

Which film or TV episode would you choose to a) Watch on repeat b) See for the first time c) Wouldn’t watch again?

a) Back to the Future – it’s my all-time favourite film and I love everything about it. It never fails to make me feel great, whatever mood I’m in.

b) Definitely Killing Eve. I’ve heard great things about it and have been meaning to watch it for a while but haven’t got round to it yet.

c) Harry Potter I just don’t get it! Not my cup of tea at all. Controversial, I know, but in my opinion there are much better stories out there.
