The YAFTA Acting for Screen Youth Diploma is a one year, part time, blended learning course. The Youth diploma has been designed for those aged 11 to 16 years who have demonstrated the potential to pursue careers as professional screen actors.
This course has been designed to work alongside mainstream education and family life to allow those who are passionate about pursuing a career as a screen actor to do so with a reputable company without affecting their education.
Our students follow a structured syllabus which has been designed by a team of graduates from the world’s top drama schools including; RADA, LAMDA, Central School of Speech and Drama, ALRA and LIPA, and Occupational and Business Psychologists who specialise in assessment and selection, specifically, the design and delivery of examination processes.
This is a blended learning course requiring 3 full contact days per month, which run on either Saturdays, Sundays at our studio in Leeds. In addition to homework set by tutors, there is a distance learning aspect of the course which must be completed.
Throughout the course, students will work on developing their craft as well as their industry skills knowledge and experience. Students will be required to pass the YAFTA Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Certifications in Screen Acting in order to achieve the full diploma award.
The ultimate aim of the course is to develop students’ acting skills to an exceptional level, at which stage they will be offered representation by YAFTA Talent Agency (PMA). Additionally the course aims to build upon the skill of our young actors who are already represented to give them the best chances of succeeding in auditions and essentially, securing mainstream film and television roles.
During the course, as well as your actor training, you will undertake a number of workshops including:
Understanding the Acting Industry
The Business of Working as an Actor
Marketing Yourself as an Actor
Casting Director Workshops With Various Top Casting Directors
Director workshops with directors working in mainstream film & TV
Psychological Preparation for the Industry
You will also create your: Showreel, Headshots, CV, Various online profiles including Spotlight.
All of the above will be under the expert guidance of our highly qualified team of tutors, managers and agents. All of our teachers are drama school trained, experience teachers with a proven track record for training and developing talent.
On completion of the course you can expect to:
Have developed your acting skills to a level suitable for working as a professional actor
Understand and be able to deliver performance specifically for screen
Have a thorough understanding of the acting industry and the requirements of a working actor
Have all of the necessary skills and tools to enable you to obtain agency representation and work as a professional actor
In the final semester, students will start preparing their final short film which will be shot, edited and screened at the End of Year Showcase event.
To develop those with identified potential from beginner to professional working actor within 12 months.
To equip students with the necessary skills, knowledge and tools to enable them to work as professional actors.
The course is suitable for those:
Aged 11 to 16 years of age who are passionate about pursuing careers as professional screen actors.
Actors who are already agency represented but wish to develop their skills to enable them to secure more work.
Learning Hours (Semester 1, 2 & 3)
6 x contact hours on either a Saturday or Sunday
2-3 x Independent study hours per week.
HOW TO APPLY
Those who are identified as having potential to succeed in the industry will be offered a place on the course.
The next course starts February 2018 and will run on Saturdays. Auditions take place on Saturday 2nd December 2017.

Entry onto this course is via audition only. Auditions for February 2018 intake will take place on Saturday 2nd December.
